Channels, IC and OOC, are governed by an overarching set of rules. It is a good idea to be familiar with them.

In Character

Say

This channel is essentially just you and other people speaking to each other in your environment using the say command.

Party

This channel allows members of a party to speak to each other via the party command. You cannot speak on the party channel while in a city, however you can hear what others say on it if they are outside the city.

Guild

Nearly every guild has a channel over which they can communicate with other members of the guild. The channel name is generally the name of the guild, though in the case of a long guild name, it may be abbreviated.

Threshold

The Threshold channel is the only global, in character channel. Historically, the channel was available to everyone, however, it has since become a tool for announcements by the STEA, justicars, and religions (via proclamations made from within temples).

When a ruler or a deity heals or buffs you, you will receive a buff that will expire after one minute. While this buff is active, you will be able to speak on the Threshold channel; generally this is provided to allow thanks and in character praise.

Other

Depending on your character, you may receive other IC channels.

Out of Character

The following channels are out of character.

Heritage

The heritage channel exists for newcomers to seek assistance. This channel will function until a player hits level 10, after which they get access to the ooc question channel.

Who can access

Question

Once you lose access to heritage, you can ask questions here. Do not ask about ETAs, registrations, or admin related stuff. A more detailed description of the question channel exists to guide on its usage.

Who can access

  • Everyone above level 10

Politics

Due to the likely polarizing nature of political discussions, a haven (both for people who want to talk about politics and those who don't) was created. Topics of politics should always take place on this channel. Before you can successfully tune into this channel the first time, you will be asked to agree to the terms of access.

Rules

The politics channel requires periodic agreement to its rules:

  1. I WILL NOT allow any opinions expressed on the politics channel to affect the way I treat people either IC or OOC outside of the politics channel.
  2. I will make every effort to treat participants with respect and refrain from personal attacks that are not germane to the issues being discussed.
  3. If a member of the Administration chooses to participate in a discussion on the politics channel, I understand that they are speaking as an individual member of the Threshold community, and not as an Administrator (unless they state that they have tuned in to deal with an abuse or misuse of the channel). I agree that the Administration does not have any duty or responsibility to be any kinder or gentler towards participants on the channel than those participants are towards each other.
  4. I will not use the politics channel to engage in slander, libel, or hate speech. Threshold is not the government, thus there is no such thing as a right to free speech. This rule exists for the benefit of the community.

Who can access

  • Registered citizens

Sports

If you want to talk sports, this is the channel for you. Discussions on this topic can get pretty heated, and so this channel was created to separate the topic from other general channels.

Who can access

  • Everyone

Trivia

This is a general purpose OOC channel. Absolutely nothing related to the game should be discussed here. In character topics are forbidden.
