Threshold is split into sections of game called Territories. These regions can be both large or small, while some are again subdivided, though they are all referred to as territories.
Discovering a territory you have not previously visited grants your character experience points.
You can see how many territories you have discovered via the territories command. You can see the name of the territory you're in via the territory command.
Each clan, temple, and guild have their own territories, as well.
