Types

A weapon type is a broad classification that is generally the damage type it inflicts when striking. Certain guilds are prevented from wielding any weapon of a type of weapon. For example, clerics cannot wield bladed weapons, which are of the types cutting and thrusting.

Sub-types

Weapon sub-types are a more specific classification.

Handedness

  • All one-handed weapons are able to be wielded in either hand and permit dual-wielding, or a held item if the weapon is wielded in the primary hand
  • All two-handed weapons prevent wielding a second weapon, equipping a shield, or a held item
  • A main-hand weapon is a weapon that can only be wielded in the primary hand. This sub-type always permits a shield or a held item to be equipped, and often may include allowing a second weapon. Ordinarily, it is small main-handed weapons that permit a second weapon, however, as medium and large would be too unwieldy.

The table below provides general weapon intentions by weapon sub-types. Some artifact weapons or special weapons may violate these, but is is uncommon.

You can determine much about a weapon's capabilities and how it may be used by using the ooc command.
