There are several mechanics that exist to reduce the effects death has on a character. The order in which the effects are listed on this page are the order in which they are checked in game whenever you resurrect. You may only benefit from one at a time.

RP Note: None of these effects confers a restoration of your memories to your character. You must still abide by the time it would take (two RL hours) before your character will remember the nature or location of their death.

Death Where is thy Sting

Death Where is thy Sting (DWITS) is a global toggle whereby any character who dies will receive no death consequences whatsoever. DWITS confers the following effects when slain by an NPC or PC:

  • No level loss
  • No experience point loss
  • No death consequences

You may see if you are under the influence of DWITS via the toggles command.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is an attainable effect like DWITS and is available once per month via the Loyalty system. Forgiveness is temporary and will last, if not consumed, for one RL week. Forgiveness confers the following effects when slain by an NPC or PC:

  • No level loss
  • No experience point loss
  • No death consequences

Forgiveness is consumed the first time you die under its influence and you can see when it expires via the fame command.

Boon

A boon is often granted as an award from IC deities, or the administration, or as a purchasable item through registration specials and confers the following effects when slain by an NPC or PC:

  • No level loss
  • No experience point loss

Boons stack and they will decrement each time they are consumed. You may see if you have any boons via the fame command.

Cycle of Life

Once per RL year, during the month that is a character's anniversary, he may earn himself a Cycle of Life bonus by visiting and praying in any temple. Cycle of Life confers the following effect when slain by an NPC:

  • No level loss

You may only have one Cycle of Life at a time and it will be removed upon consumption. You may see if you have a Cycle of Life and also when you may next pray for a Cycle of Life via the score command.

Vengeance

Vengeance is a rare and random death consequence bestowed by the goddess Loviatar. There is no controlling if or when this may occur. Vengeance confers the following effects when slain by an NPC:

  • No level loss
  • No experience point loss

Kismet

Kismet is a rare and random death consequence bestowed by the gods to help those who die frequently. The more you die, the higher the chance of receiving Kismet. If you gain a guild level, these chances are significantly reduced. Kismet confers the following effects when slain by an NPC:

  • No level loss
