October 2023 Threshold Update

Kleiburn is Coming to Town!

  • Saturday, October 7, 8pm ET.
  • Sunday, October 15, 7pm ET.

In addition to his usual spectacular wonders up for auction, Kleiburn will have some fixed price, UNLIMITED quantity items available for every interested customer.

Death - No More Level Loss!

Dying in Threshold no longer includes level loss as a penalty. This is a decision we considered very carefully for a very long time. Ultimately, we decided that player expectations have evolved and our death penalty was simply too harsh to attract new players and keep our existing players happy and having fun rather than feeling frustrated.

Threshold is a difficult, challenging, and very rewarding game. We will always hold strongly to its traditions and to the design goal of making your accomplishments meaningful and significant. Threshold is also one of the oldest live service games on the planet and to maintain a healthy community we need to adjust to some trends and expectations of the modern gamer.

Back to School & Fall Renewal Event

We have a number of special events going right now to attract new players, invigorate and revitalize existing players, or even entice some of you prodigal players back!

You can read full details about that event here:

Briefly:

Newbie Encouragement: A Sojourner's Pack for all new players that provides free periodic food, lets them gift food periodically, and recognize characters they enjoyed roleplaying with.

Veteran Encouragement - Spicy Remort: This is a variation of the remort system where you can remort into a different guild! This is a unique opportunity to spice up an existing character you love but want to radically change his or her playstyle.

Altaholic - During this event, citizens can experiment with an alt without having to make it a citizen first. Try it out for a bit and decide later if you want to keep it.

And There's More...

Some other things that have happened recently (and by far NOT a comprehensive list):

  • Monthly favor competitions have been especially unique lately and the competition for them has been intense.
  • House feature expansion including the addition of Sundry Closets, rugs, and improvements to closets and jewelry cases.
  • New clan ability: Rumble.
  • New Hegemon armor sets.
  • Gathering: players can now learn ALL gathering skills, and choose a primary one.
  • The "Gypsy" heritage and NPC group have been renamed "Vagabonds." The NPC tribe are now the "Romali Vagabonds." Banyee Village is no longer associated with them, and is instead conencted thematically to a village of sea elves.
  • Task System Enhancements: task progress saves over logouts, tasks where progress is no longer possible are automatically dropped, and a number of tasks had some other tweaks and improvements made.
  • Fishing: all fishing leagues were merged into one, and there is a new tier of fishing league gear (tier 4 Goldspark Gear and the Shimmerlight Fishing Rod).
  • Ellamere Park and Food Grilling received some updates and enhancements.
