iPhones have a feature called Smart Punctuation which will turn quotes, both single and double, into wacky characters in the game.

Enable Emoting over Channels

  1. Tap the gear icon
  2. Tap Advanced
  3. Disable "Semicolon commands"

Turn off Smart Punctuation

To turn smart punctuation off, all you have to do is go to Settings > General > Keyboard, and then turn off the "Smart Punctuation" toggle.
