Alternate characters

One of the features of Threshold for registered players is the ability to create alternate characters. There are several guidelines to creating an alternate character which are conversationally outlined below. In-game, you can find information by reading help alternate characters and help alternate character rules.

At all times, you are responsible for maintaining your characters and not embroiling them in situations where these conflicts could compromise the spirit of these rules.

Characters in Opposition

You may not create or develop an alternate character that is in direct opposition to your main character. This generally means the obvious oppositions, such as churches which are at odds or in general conflict with each other. An example of this would be Bast and Erosia. You may not have characters in both of these churches. Rogues and thieves are at odds, and therefore you may not have characters in both of these guilds.

Clan, Bloodoath, Spouse

These relationships are those which you can control or have a voice in. As such, the onus is on you to judge the appropriateness of your participation.

Clans, bloodoaths, and spouses may not consist of mixes of rogues and thieves, directly opposing churches, nor catfolk and canis. These relationships also include certain restrictions as outline in the Axis article.

Behaviour

It is not permitted to help any of your alternate characters in anyway. On the outset, this appears very straightforward, however, understandably, this can get a bit murky, with all of the ways in which characters can interact and the lattice of relationships one develops.

The obvious "not helping" would include things like giving coin to your alts, giving gear to your alts, grouping with your alts to get them XP, et cetera. Though, there are some non-obvious behaviours that should be addressed and considered.

Tradesman Guild

The tradesman guild is one organisation where some confusion may arise. In the same way that you wouldn't sell items to a shop just for your alternate character to purchase, a tradesman should not craft gear for the trade shop for their alts to buy. This translates to other things, like, dumping a pile of resources in a room where your alt (and other crafters) are lurking and your tradesman alt using those resources. If you're a major player in a church, or in a church that's pushing for favor, having your crafter craft/repair things for that church would be inappropriate. There should be no link between the activities of a tradesman and the alts/main of that tradesman. You must recuse yourself from those activities. It should also go without saying that finding a way to get a recipe to your tradesman who is missing it, would also be a no. There's literally no difference between helping your tradesman or vice versa, and your mage enchanting your warrior's armor. Don't do these! 🤗
