Rex v. Chanur Crim 183-1d

FACTS: One newbie, Silkspider, in good faith requested directions from the character Chanur to the Fighters' Guild. Chanur proceeded to give directions, but directed Silkspider not to the Fighters' Guild but to Cindrax. It is alleged that Chanur did so with malicious intent to bring about serious bodily harm and or death. The prayer is for a fitting punishment for such behavior. So granted.

DECISION: Potential harm indeed awaits us all in our travels, but we avoid, we hope, putting ourselves directly in harm's way. When a new individual enters the realm it is only with the help of more experienced citizens that he may navigate and learn his way. Such was the case with Silkspider. Citizens of the realm are encouraged to show hospitality to new citizens by giving directions and answering questions, for it is in the interests of the public and the realm for such to happen. Conversely it is as well against the interests of the realm and the public for experienced players to give directions designed to bring harm and death upon one making such a request. It is therefore the rule of this realm that any player who with the intent to bring about the death or grievous harm of another citizen gives directions resulting in such harm or death has violated the laws and shall be punished. Upon the strong evidence here, Chanur is guilty of such a violation.

SENTENCE: Chanur is hereby sentenced to (1) year of VIGILANTE JUSTICE which may be visited upon her by any citizen of the realm. In accordance with the normal rules governing Vigilante Justice, Chanur's privileges of lawful pursuit and retaliation in the face of a violent attack are hereby suspended until the termination of the sentence. Such sentence will last until the 19th of Deep Chill in the year 184. See APPENDIX A below for an explanation of vigilante justice.

So ordered this 19th Day of Deep Chill 183 in the Kingdom of Sable. Judge.

APPENDIX A: Vigilante Justice is a sentence applied to serious offenders of the common law of the realm. As contemplated, a player under a sentence of Vigilante Justice may be attacked, killed, maimed, or otherwise harmed at will by any citizen of the realm without incurring penalty of law. The usual protections afforded citizens to defend themselves do not apply to citizens sentenced to vigilante justice. They may not lawfully pursue and retaliate against those attack, maim, harm or kill the sentenced individual.
