Kleiburn the Traveller
Kleiburn is a mysterious and immensely powerful figure whose first recorded visit to Sable occurred over 260 years ago. He appears without warning every few years or decades, offering rare and powerful items in legendary auctions. His presence commands immediate respect: even Kings, Emperors, and Rajah's show deference to him, and Gods seem to conspicuously ignore him.
He is known for brewing extraordinary wines, collecting rare cheeses, and valuing powerful artifacts and unique curiosities. His small wagon is vastly larger inside than it appears, filled with opulence and mystery. He hires local guards wherever he travels - fierce, loyal, and unquestioning - both to protect himself and support the local economy.
Kleiburn is not to be defied. His auctions are not contests of ego or power. Those who approach him with arrogance or hostility always lose — not because staff want it, but because the world demands it. His purpose is to be outwitted, not outmuscled. He rewards cleverness, imagination, and those who engage with respect and creativity.
When Kleiburn visits, he typically chooses the merchant stalls of whichever Kingdom is dominant between Sable and Thrace.
Trivia
- During a visit around the year 527, three of his guards were injured in combat with an auction thief. Their names were Sir Halric Vorn, Brandel "Ironsides" Marr, and Darnic Fell.
