When you miss a target or an enemy misses you, you can determine roughly by the message displayed how poorly the miss was.

| 2 | Attacker | but don't quite land the strike |

| 3 | Attacker | but catch only air. |
| Defender | but catches only air. | |
| Room | but catches only air. | |
| 4 | Attacker | but he moves out of the way. |

Miss messages can be suppressed and unsuppressed by typing settings combat.
